
Why you need to stop grounding NOW!

You’ve probably heard it a million times, grounding, grounding, grounding! Feeling rubbish? Ground yourself! Overthinking? Ground yourself! Feeling frustrated? You should probably ground yourself…
But what about when you’re feeling stuck in the mud? If you’re feeling sluggish or unmotivated? No amount of grounding is going to help you. In fact, it is the last thing you should be doing!
Connecting with Earth energy is great but if you’re coming from a place of inaction then perhaps working with a different element would be better. Grounding is perfect for slowing yourself down, taking a moment to pause and getting rid of excess energy. But if you are already on a go-slow, if you can’t get yourself started then adding Earth energy to the mix is going to make the issue worse.
Go outside by all means, but connect instead with the air – allow the breeze to blow over you, taking away the procrastination and the inaction. Let the energy of Air give you a rush of energy, motivation and imagination. Notice how this suddenly feels different.
Connect with the energy of Fire – go outside and be in the energy of the Sun. Feel its warmth on your skin. Drink in the fiery heat and let it ignite a spark within you. Allow that spark to become a flame, an energy burst of motivation, and then take action!
If the weather is not great then go outside anyway and dance in the rain (or simply stand if you’re worried what the neighbours will think!) Connect with the energy of Water. Let the water cleanse you. Allow the water to wash away anything that needs releasing, let go of any feelings of inadequacy and listen to what your body, your mind and your spirit need.
Or – if you must connect with the Earth then instead of drawing that grounding energy to you, change things up. Give your thoughts and feelings to the Earth instead. Send what you don’t need – thoughts, feelings etc – down into the Earth, let the Earth take it away.
Go a step further if you like and stand with hands out-stretched to the sky. Visualise the energy of the Sun coming into your body through your up-stretched hands, through your head and face. Then allow that energy to flow right through your body, collecting up the negativity you want rid of. And then push it all into the Earth through the soles of your feet.
Grounding is an important part of Magical Practice but is it always the answer? Incorporate some of the other Elements in your work and see if you can feel what each energy brings you. And let me know how you get on!
